NAB LAS VEGAS 2008

Nab 2008 ran from April 11th to the 17th. As usual Las Vegas turned on beautiful spring weather and the conference ran from the 11th till the 13th, the exhibition from the 14th till the 17th. Nathan and I arrived in LA on the morning of the 12th, hired a light aircraft and did a coastal stills photo shoot from Ventura to Long Beach harbour then over Santa Catalina to get some aerials of Avalon and Two Harbours before returning to Van Nuys airport via Palos Verdes and Santa Monica. We managed to catchup up with our good buddy Sam Lafoca from KTLA and had a great lunch with him before hitting the road and heading for Vegas. We made it up to Barstow before hunger and jetlag caught up! We found a cheap but comfortable motel and crashed. Hitting the road first thing in the 13th we arrived in Vegas at around lunch time. Checking into our hotel we got on the phone and booked another small plane for a Sunday flight over the Grand Canyon then headed for the Hard Rock Casino for the annual Aussie and Kiwi drinks night. Needless to say we all had a great night and managed to catch up with most of the local industry including Andy Liell from Videocraft (thanks for a great dinner Andy!), John Bowring from Lemac, Dave Gross from Distinction Films, the boys from Content and Technology, Ross Gastons and a large slice of the Amber Technology team......all in all a very social and liquid evening.

Sunday dawned another beautiful day and we headed out to North Vegas airport and met our pilot for the Grand Canyon flight. We took off into an absolutely clear sky and enjoyed an awesome flight over the Canyon then back along Lake Mead, Hoover Dam and finally a fly over of the Red Rocks area near Las Vegas. A great flight and some amazing aerial shots to show for it. Check them out at www.airviewonline.com.au

The Exhibition began on Monday morning and to describe the Las Vegas convention Centre as large is an under statement. Of the six halls we only really got through three whilst there. We had specific goals in mind and spent alot of time with the companies we needed to see or gather info from and came away with pretty much all of the answers we were after.

The time in Las Vegas flew by and we headed out on Wednesday to drive back to LA. Our flight out was booked for midnight and we made good time back to LA so we enjoyed an early Dinner at the legendary Typhoon airside restaurant at Santa Monica airport before heading down to LAX.
